Party Ideas for Your Awards Season

Awards season 2014 is in full swing—some of you may still be recovering from Golden Globes viewing parties this past Sunday—and you may be inspired to throw a party of your own for awards season 2014. Of course we all love movies and the awards parties and all that they represent. We’re in awe, all at once inspired by the pomp and circumstance of the events. But do you secretly wish you could throw your own lavish awards season bash? Well, you can! The season has only just begun! The Screen Actors Guild Awards are next and then the piece des resistance, the pinnacle and most coveted of trophy celebrations—the Oscars.

On the Red Carpet …

If you yearn to join in the celebration of movies in a larger way than just watching the show from your couch, in your pajamas, why not throw a viewing party? Here are some simple DIY home-decorating ideas to jump-start your party celebration in larger-than-life, Hollywood-style.

First review some of the movie themes this year to decide on a theme or to inspire ideas. Of course with choices like the 70s themed American Hustle and the wildly over-the-top Liberace on the short list, you have a wide range of ideas from which to choose.

  • Walk the Red Carpet

An awards show party is made that much more fun by letting your guests walk the red carpet. Whether you live in an apartment and you simply throw down a runner at the entrance or you live in a large home and you line the driveway, a red carpet is the perfect touch. This can be done quite inexpensively by purchasing a runner at niche stores like a Party City or you can research more upscale options. If you want your awards party to be really over the top, add a red stanchion velvet rope barrier—now that’s Hollywood!

  • Host Your Own Gift Suite

Hollywood awards show are famous for their lavish gifting suites. Celebrities visit each suite for gift bags that can sometimes be filled with products that are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.  But don’t you fret; you can do this on a smaller scale. Just use beautiful paper wine bags or gift bags and fill them with fun items like wrapped chocolates, Starbucks gift cards, massage coupons, champagne flutes and more. Use your imagination!

  • ‘Behind the Candelabra’ or Do the ‘Hustle’

Celebrate Liberace! CJ Esposito had some great ideas on her Pinterest for candelabras—some of which are as easy as throwing a votive a several beautiful wine glasses. Or you can create a dance floor right in your living room with a piece of vinyl flooring and a disco ball and do the Hustle in honor of American Hustle.

  • Star Studded Glam!

Glitter fabric is a great way to glam up a party. Use as a curtain at the entrance or drape around the room for that extra pizazz. Martha Stewart has some great do it yourself ideas to give a party that upscale Hollywood feel without breaking the bank.  She says to coat a mason jar with gold or silver spray paint and fill it with luxurious bouquets. Or using clear candy containers filled with white chocolate covered almonds or silver and gold wrapped gourmet candies. These are a great alternative to flowers.
